TOLERANCE

TOLERANCE

Intolerance is a Character Defect

What is tolerance? -- It is the consequence of humanity. We are all formed of frailty and error; let us pardon reciprocally each other's folly -- that is the first law of nature. Tolerance is showing respect for the rights or opinions or practices of others. "Tolerance is another word for indifference." “Those who understand everything becomes tolerant." "The responsibility of tolerance lies in; who have the wider vision and open mind" Tolerance cannot be neutral about what is good, though, for its very purpose is to guard good and avert evils.

Every one deems himself perfect and no one calls himself imperfect is the problem created by an individual ego. Absence of the virtue of tolerance is a character defect and a global threat too.
It is observed that those who follow the Alcoholics Anonymous program with the greatest earnestness and zeal not only maintain sobriety but often acquire finer characteristics with positive attitudes. One of these is tolerance. Tolerance expresses itself in a variety of ways: in kindness and consideration:
  1. Toward the man or woman who is just beginning the march along the spiritual path.
  2. In the understanding of those who perhaps have been less fortunate in education advantages.
  3. And in sympathy toward those whose religious ideas may seem to be at great variance with our own.
Without some tolerance, we might tend to become a bit smug or superior. Tolerance gives one a greater freedom from the tendency to cling to preconceived ideas and stubbornly adhered-to opinions. In other words, it often promotes an open-mindedness that is vastly important and in fact, is a prerequisite to the successful termination of any line of search, whether it is scientific or spiritual. These, are few reasons why an attempt to acquire tolerance should be made by each one of us.
Patience, tolerance, understanding and love are the watchwords. Show him these things in yourself and they will be reflected back to you from him. [B.B. 118, line 13]

Tolerance is the appreciation of diversity and the ability to live and let others live.
We asked God to help us show them the same tolerance, pity, and patience that we would cheerfully grant a sick friend. When a person offended we said to ourselves, "This is a sick man. How can I be helpful to him? God save me from being angry. Thy will be done." (Page 67)
"My Creator, I am now willing that you should have all of me, good and bad. I pray that you now remove from me every single defect of character, which stands in the way of my usefulness to you and my fellows. Grant me strength, as I go out from here, to do your bidding. So be it. (Page 76)
Asking each morning in meditation that our Creator shows us the way of patience, tolerance, kindliness and love. (Page83)

We have entered the world of the Spirit. Continue to watch for selfishness, dishonesty, resentment, and fear. When these crop up, we ask God at once to remove them. (Page 84)

A spirit of INTOLRANCE might repel alcoholics, whose lives could be saved had it not, been for such stupidity. (Page 103)

We lacked tolerance and honesty that we were beset at times by attacks of self-pity or delusions of personal grandeur. (Page 58-12/12)

We never thought of making honesty, tolerance and true love of man and God the daily basis of living. (Page 72-12/12)

After all, doesn’t it the fear being the true basis of intolerance? (Page 140-12/12)
The good things about aging are you become more tolerant and more loving, more caring because you've been bumped around. You've had some troubles and you know how tough life can be. The only hope of preserving what is best, lies in the practice of an immense charity, a wide tolerance, a sincere respect for opinions that are not ours.

“I asked God to bless me with tolerance. God said No; it is not granted but learnt.

Human diversity makes tolerance more than a virtue. "The best thing to give to your enemy is forgiveness; to an opponent, tolerance; to a friend, your heart; to your child, a good example; to a father, deference; to your mother, conduct that will make her proud of you; to yourself, respect; to all men, charity."

He who has no spiritual peace, consolation, truth, love, and devotion cannot communicate these gifts and virtues to others.

LOVE AND TOLERANCE OF OTHERS IS OUR CODE AND ONE MUST TOLERATE OTHERS WITH OUT BEING DISTURBED.
